Screens/Tutorial

This is a very basic tutorial designed as a "quick start" to get you going straight away, once your first torrent is running we recommend you explore the SeedM8 interface & familiarize yourself with the many options & features available to you.

The first half covers Standard & Premium plans only, Q plans use a familiar interface very much the same as your home client, the second half covers FTP transfer.

SeedM8 Step 1:

First you should go to a torrent site & download to your PC the .torrent file/s for the torrents you wish to download, please note, that is DOT torrent file/s as above, the period is not a typo, .torrent in this case is an extension/file type.

SeedM8 Step 2:

Then go & login to your server account with the details we sent you, & locate the "Browse" button as below.

SeedM8 load torrent

  1. Click browse
  2. Select the .torrent file you downloaded to your PC
  3. Click open
  4. Click Go

SeedM8 Step 3:

There will be a short delay while the file uploads & is processed by the server, then the page will reload & you will see your torrent listed on the page.

SeedM8 start torrent

Click on the button indicated above & the transfer settings window you can see below will popup.

SeedM8 Step 4:

Select a setting in the drop down menu as indicated above, please remember, you are not allowed to exceed your total resource allocation quotas. Example: If you only purchased a 2 quotas plan you can either run one torrent using 2 resource allocation quotas, or 2 torrents using one resource allocation quota each.

SeedM8 Step 5:

Now scroll down to the bottom.

SeedM8 run transfer

Click "Run Transfer".

That's it, your torrent should now be running.

If it doesn't appear to be running you can check it's status by clicking on "Log" in the top menu of the transfer settings popup window, if there has been a timeout when trying to connect to the torrent sites tracker you will see it at the bottom of the page, usually it will connect the next time if you just leave it running.

You can also click on "Stats" to see more status details.

Close the transfer settings popup window & your done until your download has finished.

SeedM8 Step 6:

Once your download is finished & you have seeded back at least your share, locate the stop button as below.

SeedM8 stop torrent

& click stop, funnily enough :)

SeedM8 Step 7:

For best results for downloading to home, use your normal download manager to download via the direct download links in you web directory. These links are no different to any other direct download links on the web, no popup, no redirect or scripts, just the actual URL. Most people find this method faster than ftp.

Good download managers handle downloads much better than your browser, they also give you the ability to pause & resume, & also to divide each file into multiple pieces for simultaneous downloading, for most people this will result in better speeds.

DownThemAll is a good free download manager extension for the Firefox browser that many people recommend, but there are many good dedicated download managers available, both for free & for a cost.

FTP Step 1:

You can also use FTP to download from SeedM8 to your PC, & must use FTP if you want to upload content your PC to SeedM8, we recommend FTP transfer with FileZilla, a free, open source FTP client.

FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol" & has been in use for much longer than BitTorrent, it used for transferring files between 2 points over the web, like BitTorrent there are a number of good clients you can use, Filezilla is widely acknowledged as one of the best, is free, & contains no ad/spyware.

When you first fire up FileZilla it may look a little intimidating for the uninitiated, one of the reason we love this ftp client is it has everything an advance user needs, but is also dead simple for newbies, & this tutorial will make it even simpler for you.

FTP Step 2:

First you need to enter your ftp account details we sent you into FileZilla.

In the upper top menu click "File" then > "Site Manager", & the window below will open.

FileZilla enter SeedM8

  1. Click "New Site"
  2. Enter whatever nickname you want to use, it's just for your own reference.
  3. a/ Enter the server address we provided you in the "Host:" field ----- b/ leave "Port:" blank ----- "Servertype:" FTP as you can see above ----- select "Logontype:" Normal ----- enter the username & password we provided you. Please note: Standard & premium plans use an email like format as you can see in the pic above, Q plans do not, they use your username ONLY.
  4. Click OK.

FTP Step 3:

In the middle top menu click on the little downward arrow as below.

FileZilla enter SeedM8

Click on the nickname you entered for SeedM8 & Filezilla will connect automatically to your directory on your SeedM8 server. If you've just installed FileZilla, & you have a good firewall, which you should, it may ask you if you want to allow FileZilla permission, agree yes.

FTP Step 3:

In the middle upper left hand panel you will see your PC directory structure, locate & select the folder you want to transfer to.

SeedM8 select local folder

FileZilla will display the contents of the folder in the lower left panel.

FTP Step 4:

In the middle upper right hand panel is the inside of your SeedM8 directory/folder, if your download is a file you will need to select the top folder you see, if it is a folder select the actual folder as you can see in the screen shot below.

SeedM8 select file/folder

FileZilla will display the content of the selected folder in the lower right panel.

FTP Step 5:

Select the file/s you want to download, right click, & in the drop down menu click "Download".

FileZilla select SeedM8 download

& that's it :)

The above FileZilla instructions are almost identical for uploading to SeedM8, instead you select the file on your computer, right click, & then click "Upload".

If you do not experience good download speed with ftp then you should use a http download manager such as the DownThemAll extension for firefox, such download managers will divide each file into multiple pieces to be downloaded simultaneously, therefore increasing the speed.
